The Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation (MSDSI) is currently accepting applications to fill multiple full-time permanent positions in Victoria.

Successful applicants must have high-level customer service skills, excellent computer knowledge and be willing to work in any of the following possible work environments:
• Open office concept - (cubicle environment)
• Telephone Contact Call Centre
• Face to face front service counter

At a Glance --
Employment and Assistance Workers (EAWs) play an important role in people's lives. If you are results focussed and enjoy working in a fast-paced service oriented environment, the role of the EAW with the Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation may be the next step you are looking for in your career.

EAWs collect, verify, record and process forms and documents, and determine eligibility such as applications for programs and services in accordance with established regulations, policies and procedures, using specialized computer databases, records management and case management systems.

Individuals working in this position conduct a wide range of administrative procedures and computer focussed tasks. They should have strong organizational and time management skills, as well as good keyboarding and computer skills. In addition, strong communication and interpersonal skills are required. Conflict resolution skills are an asset in this challenging position when working with sensitive situations and distressed clients facing personal crisis.

Working Conditions --
EAWs work a 35-hour workweek, during the day in an office environment; however, some may work in a front line service (face to face) or contact centre (over the phone) work environment. EAWs use standard office equipment such as computers, and a multifunctional device that incorporates a printer, scanner, photocopier, fax and e-mail. Their work is oriented to interacting with people (i.e. co-workers, clients and the community), and conducting various administrative processes. Excellent computer and keyboarding skills is mandatory to succeed as an EAW.

EAWs may also work in environments that have busy peak times, dealing with the demands of serving many clients in quick succession. Individuals must therefore be able to prioritize and multi-task. They must draw on their good interpersonal skills to navigate difficult interactions with culturally diverse clients. EAWs communicate the purpose of employment and assistance programs and services and apply policies to individuals in a clear, polite, professional and culturally sensitive manner. EAWs determine eligibility and approve or deny applications for programs/services based on client needs, personal issues, resources, financial circumstances and employability. EAWs also ensure clients are aware of alternative resources.

Location --
Victoria has two Employment and Assistance offices, one located in Saanich and the other downtown. Victoria has specialized service areas, which may include exclusively processing service requests (primarily computer focussed tasks), conducting in-depth interviews, serving a high volume of clients in-person (front service counter), or providing services by phone in a Call Centre setting. Successful candidates may be placed in a different office than where originally trained and rotate working in the different service delivery settings.
