Red Cross is responding to a powerful 8.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Japan. The earthquake, the largest in Japan’s history, triggered four metre waves in Japan and tsunami warnings across the Pacific coast. There are reports of major damage and injuries in Japan and the Red Cross is concerned for countries with vulnerable coastal areas who may not have adequate prevention or response mechanism in place. The situation continues to unfolds and the most urgent needs now are search and rescue support, emergency medical care, clean water and emergency shelter.
The Canadian Red Cross is currently accepting donations in case anyone is interested in donating, or organizing a community fundraiser. Can you please pass this information on to others at your organization? I have attached our case statement that has some additional information about how donations can be made.
Thanks and hope you’re doing well!
