NATIONAL REGULATOR CALLS ON PUBLIC TO EXPOSE IMMIGRATION FRAUD
Burlington (ON) – July 2, 2013 – The Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC),
the national regulatory body of the Canadian immigration consulting profession, is launching an
international campaign to
encourage the reporting of unregulated immigration consultants.
“ALERT!” is the ICCRC‟s confidential whistleblowing initiative that
enables consumers, the industry, and
the general public in Canada and abroad to contact the ICCRC and provide detailed information on
suspected fraudulent service providers. Tips can be filed online at
www.iccrc-crcic.ca/alert, by emailing
alert@iccrc-crcic.ca, or by calling 1-877-836-7543 toll-free in North America, or 001- 905-399-7537 from
overseas.
“We are taking decisive action to fulfill the ICCRC‟s mandate to protect consumers from illegal
representatives of immigration services in Canada and overseas,” says Daniel Roukema, the national
regulator‟s Director of Communications. “„
ALERT!‟ will make it easier
for the public, locally and abroad, to report immigration fraud. Only authorized representatives can legally provide immigration advice or representation for a fee under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA).”
Information provided through “ALERT!” will be tracked and forwarded to the Royal Canadian Mounted
Police (RCMP), Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), or law enforcement agencies in other countries
for investigation and prosecution.
